Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Let's look at the reviews!

It's being hailed as the motion picture event of a generation. But, how good is the first part of the Harry Potter franchise's long awaited finale? Let's take a look at the UK reviews from the premiere at London's Odeon Leicester Square.

London Evening Standard - 3/5
They call it "gripping" and the "bleakest" of the franchise so far yet criticise it for ending "too abruptly".

The Telegraph - 4/5
"Scary" and "affecting" are two of the words used to describe it and The Telegraph also praise the "fantastic set pieces".

The Guardian - 2/5
They suggest that it won't stand the test of time, stating that the movie is "too obviously built for purpose" and lacks any "warmth or wit" to last more than 10 or 20 years in the future.

The Daily Mail - 3/5
They praise it for being well paced and for being both "touching" and "lyrical", but state that the "story-telling isn't all that clear" for people who have not read the book. All in all, however, The Daily Mail believe that fans will get their money's worth though.

The Independent - 4/5
The Deathly Hallows will apparently "whet your appetite for what promises to be an almighty showdown" even if it sometimes "sags where it should soar".

Empire Magazine - 3/5
Empire believe that "it has it's magic moments" and enjoy the fact that the tension is "pumped up sky high" but call some scenes "baffling" and "cringe-worthy".

The Times - 3/5
For a kids film, The Times wonders if it is be too scary suggesting it will be "a nightmarish place" for them. She also criticises the over-long finale and says it lacks "forward-momentum".

The Express - 5/5
"Gritty and intense" they call Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before stating that "the tension never fades".

Total Film - 3/5
They say it's "muddled, meandering and over-stretched" and even suggest that it has "no right to exist". However, Total Film call it "thunder before the lightning" and hope that it will pave the way for a great finale.
