We're still 8 months away from the awards ceremonies, the red carpets and the golden statues, but as of this morning the discussions about what'll be nominated at the 2010 Academy Awards have already begun. This is because the trailer for The American was released just several hours ago.
The movie, which stars Hollywood's favourite leading man George Clooney, is the first of the 'award season' films - ones that studios release between September and February so that they're more likely to be taken into consideration by the Academy - that has had a trailer released this year.
Those who have watched it have already started to consider it a contender for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Actor. Personally, I couldn't agree more with these speculations as Anton Corbijn seems to have crafted a unique, intelligent and beautiful thriller in The American. It's no surprise really seeing as he was the man behind the stunning Joy Division biopic Control.
